The 9.8-foot (three metre) rock went over Antarctica on October 1. ESA cited: "Objects of this size pose no significant danger." Follow-up examinations enabled scientists to find its exact closest approach at 01:47:26 BST. While it causes no harm to Earth, this near miss emphasizes challenges in discovering asteroids.
