Murder arrest after body found in search for missing teenage girl – Manchester Evening News Skip to main content A murder arrest has been made by police after a teenage girl died at a house in Tameside on Sunday (September 21). Police began investigating the disappearance of Catherine, who had been reported as missing from Ashton-under-Lyne in the early hours of Saturday (September 20). GMP have not released her full name. The 17-year-old had last been seen in the Queen's Road area at around 2.20am. Enquiries led police to a property on Whalley Close at around 9am the following day, where a girl tragically died at the scene. Although formal identification is yet to take place, Greater Manchester Police believe it to be missing Catherine, whose next of kin have been informed of the development. A 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and he remains in police custody to be questioned. However, detectives said her cause of death currently remains unclear and that they are 'keeping an open mind'.
