Thick plumes of smoke have been seen billowing near to the Trafford Centre this afternoon (Friday, April 24). Firefighters from across the area have been called to the blaze at an industrial site on Trafford Park. Emergency services were called at around 1.25pm. Multiple eye witnesses have reported the blaze to the Manchester Evening News, with smoke visible for miles around in every direction. People living nearby have been urged to keep doors and windows closed and avoid the area, with concerns raised about 'chemicals and oil drums' stored nearby. In an update shortly after 5pm, the fire service confirmed the blaze was ongoing but was now under control. A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Just after 1.25pm on Friday, April 24, fire crews were called to reports of a large fire at an industrial premises on Clarence Avenue in Trafford Park. Fire engines from Stretford, Eccles and Manchester Central were among the first to attend the scene, where firefighters found a significant fire involving part of a factory building, with reports that chemicals and oil drums were stored nearby."
