Cab sec Antonia Romeo to lead new Office for the PM and Cabinet
Home The creation of a new Office for the Prime Minister and the Cabinet has been announced, with cabinet secretary Dame Antonia Romeo tasked with leading it. The decision implements a key recommendation that the IfG’s Commission on the Centre of Government made in 2024. Leader of the House of Lords Angela Smith announced the plans in a written ministerial statement this afternoon on behalf of the PM Andy Burnham, setting out a series of machinery of government changes being made. Baroness Smith said the creation of the OPMC, which will house No.10, the new No.10 North and teams within the Cabinet Office directly serving the PM and cabinet, will ensure the “centre of government is focused on our top strategic priorities”. Smith said Romeo will lead the office, while Louise Haigh is expected to provide political leadership as first secretary of state.
