Phone manufacturers would have you believe that you’re missing out on the latest features if you don’t have the newest high-end model, but that is not necessarily the case most of the time. I’ve used and reviewed several iPhone and Android flagships over the past few years, and the year-over-year gains are not as big as they once were. When it comes to Samsung phones, the firm is actually very good at pushing big software updates out to its older Galaxy devices. This means these phones end up with the exact same software as newer models, often with just as many fun new features that those new models are marketed on. That’s exactly what is happening right now with One UI 8.5, the Android software running on Samsung’s Galaxy S26. Samsung is rolling out this version to older Galaxy phones, with the majority of changes and new perks.
