HARARE: Captain Oliver Peake's anchoring century, followed by Charles Lachmund's four-wicket haul, helped defending champions Australia register a narrow 22-run victory over West Indies in the ICC Men's U19 World Cup Super Sixes match here at the Harare Sports Club on Wednesday. The hard-fought victory, which marked Australia's second in the Super Sixes, propelled them into the semi-finals as they remained at the summit with eight points in four matches. Put into bat first, the holders registered a formidable total of 314/7 in their 50 overs as Peake and opener Nitesh Samuel laid a solid foundation with their third-wicket partnership. Australia got off to a flamboyant start to their innings, with their in-form opener Will Malajczuk smashing a blazing 30-ball 48 amid a blistering 78-run stand with Samuel, which culminated with the former's dismissal on the final delivery of the eighth over. The defending champions then suffered another blow to their batting charge as top-order Steven Hogan (four) perished cheaply and were thus reduced to 84/2 in 11 overs.
