Vermont not participating in Trump administration’s ‘Great American State Fair’ Skip to content Local News Only MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont is not participating in national Freedom 250 celebrations, including the Great American State Fair, which several other states have also bowed out of. The event on the National Mall aims to highlight every state’s story, according to organizers. But a spokesperson for Gov. Phil Scott says there was not enough time to plan, and it would have been an expensive endeavor. Officials from Illinois, Oregon, Washington, Massachusetts, and North Carolina also declined the invitation, citing high costs. The Trump-aligned nonprofit organizing the fair, Freedom 250, says all 50 states and territories will still be represented at the event.
