The reason June 1 is an important date is because any trade after that date is much more palatable for the Eagles’ salary cap situation. Basically, the dead money on the Eagles’ salary cap will be split between this season and next if Brown is traded. Before June 1, all of that dead money from bonuses would accelerate onto the 2026 cap. After today at 4 p.m., the Eagles will actually save $7 million in cap space this season. If he’s traded after this date, Brown will account for around $16 million in dead space this year and $27 million next year. While teams can release a player with a “post-June 1” designation, no such designation exists for trades. So teams have to actually wait until June to make a deal happen.
