Nearly 100 trees blown down at St Michael's Mount due to Storm Goretti – in pictures – Cornwall Live
frontpage Pictures show the extensive damage caused to historic tidal island St Michael's Mount after Storm Goretti – with nearly 100 trees blown down. The heavy storm brought chaos to Cornwall, prompting a rare red weather warning for wind. The rocky tidal island off the British coast with only 31 residents suffered a loss of "80 per cent" of its trees, said Darren Little, head gardener at St Michael’s Mount. Mr Little said that the strong winds coming through caused "a lot of destruction" to all the northern woods and all the trees. The Met Office said Storm Goretti was one of the most severe wind events to hit Cornwall in recent years. Mr Little said: "We've lost about 80 per cent of the trees on the island. "And underneath those trees, we got camellias, rhododendrons, hydrangeas, that have all been affected by this.
